It is never too early or late to make exercise a healthy habit in your life. Arabian Center understands this need for a proactive attitude towards physical fitness in the region. As such, the mall, the latest hotspot for shopping, leisure and entertainment located on Al Khawaneej Road, Dubai announced the inauguration of the SportsFit Health Club at its premises.
The attitude towards health and fitness has changed over the years and it is apparent that the region has become much more aware of the need to be proactive towards physical fitness. Taking this initiative forward, the health club is offering fabulous discounts and promotions for members of the club.
The key aim of this new initiative is to promote a healthy lifestyle for residents and patrons of the mall by providing a platform where they are able to keep fit and stay healthy. This club has within its premises a medical centre specializing in sports injuries. This allows for full rehabilitation and follows through with manual therapy and exercises which ensure wholesome recovery. This idea to have a health club go hand in hand with a medical centre for sports injury was conceptualized by Dr. George P John, Sports Medicine Surgeon, who has been practicing in Dubai for many years.
Commenting on this initiative, Mr. Tim Jones, COO, Arabian Center, said, “We are pleased to be part of this initiative where we can promote a healthy lifestyle through exercise and fitness. It is an honor to be one of the few shopping destinations in the region that offer complete health and fitness services with state of the art equipment and facilities to its patrons.”
The Club has been carefully created using the best equipment possible, coupled with the professional staff and trainers, and has partnered all this with world class medical support. The club is open from 6 AM to 2 AM.
Providing a choice for women to workout in comfortable surroundings using the best equipment available, the ‘Ladies Only’ section of the gym has its own private entrance from within the mall and is also open till 2 AM to fit in with every woman’s busy lifestyle.
Spearheading this initiative along with Dr. John is Ms. Huda Dogan, an expert in the realm of fitness centres and health clubs. “We see this club as an opportunity for residents to work out and keep fit using the best equipment and facilities with affordable membership fees. The club is also supervised by experienced and professional trainers with a special in house medical facility to cater for sports injuries thus establishing SportsFit Health Club as a wholesome facility for all fitness needs.”
Ms. Dogan comes from a strong fitness background having worked in the industry for over 10 years managing health clubs in both the Middle East and the U.S for a number of well known international chains.
Arabian Center is home to over 200 internationally renowned brands ranging from clothing to home furnishings, electronics, jewelry, perfumes, fashion accessories, toys and games. Sprawling over a generous area of 80,000 square meters, the mall also houses a hypermarket – World Mart, which carries a wide variety of products fulfilling the daily needs of the shoppers. The mall has recently opened a fully digital Dolby CinemaCity, equipped with eight big screen state-of-the-art digital theaters and a highly scrumptious sushi bar. Catering to a large audience of Arabs, Europeans and Asians, the Arabian Center is a complete family destination for shopping, leisure and entertainment.
The mall houses many public utility services such as a medical clinic, a children’s day care center, banks, post office and immigration department, Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department (DNRD) and a health center with a spa, attempting to create a convenient one-stop-shop destination for all living requirements. Sporting Arabian architecture with a modern outlook, the mall houses a variety of shopping options for men, women and children, facilitating an effortless and fun shopping experience.

Hospitality Industry To Continue To Lead Recovery In The UAE Say Speakers Of The Upcoming Arabian Hotel Investment Conference (AHIC 2011)
May 21, 2011 by Editor
With global attention focused on the Arab world, AHIC 2011 will examine the key issues expected to affect the hotel investment industry over the coming year and beyond during the three day conference, running from 30th April to 2nd May.
Investor Hard Talk, dedicated to issues facing the investment community, will look at the regional and global factors that will affect performance, impact on balance sheets, and dictate which markets are prime for investment.
Mark Wynne-Smith, Chief Executive Officer Europe, Middle East & Africa, of Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels, who is the moderator of this session, commented:
“The global hotel investment market has seen a significant pick-up in activity over the past twelve months. The Middle East market started to see some activity but recent events in the region make it a difficult time for investors to make decisions. The market continues to offer excellent potential for investors who are prepared to tread carefully through the myriad of issues that are currently to be considered.”
In a recent report entitled Top Ten Trends for UAE Real Estate 2011, Jones Lang LaSalle predict that the hospitality industry will become more focused on performance and repositioning in 2011, and that it will be among the first sectors of the Dubai market to recover following two years of economic pressure. The report also mentions that financial performance will drive decision making in hotel sector in UAE in 2011, where there will be increased opportunities for the repositioning of older five star hotels, in order to compete with the new flagship properties.
The Dubai hotel market will also witness an increased focus on asset management, and a diversification of product, with an increased number of budget hotels coming online as the market broadens from its previous focus on five star properties. Forecasts indicate contrasting fortunes for the major UAE markets, with Dubai’s hotel industry set to stabilise in 2011 while Abu Dhabi continues to soften.
Furthermore, the year to date February 2011 numbers from STR Global for Middle East/Africa Hotel Industry Performance illustrates the short term impact of political unrest shown in the decline of Middle East occupancy rate from 59.2% in February last year to 56.8% this year. However, there’s an overall longer term positive trend, because those countries not directly impacted showed progress.
Abu Dhabi and Muscat came within the top 5 markets which positively witnessed an increase in the occupancy rate recorded by 24.1% and 12% respectively. Middle East RevPar has also increased from 96.42 US Dollars in February last year to 102.32 US Dollars this year. Major events such as the Muscat Festival & The World’s Largest Floating Book Fair have also contributed in hotel performance growth in Muscat, pushing it to the top of the 5 markets with 22.9% increase in YTD February 2011 vs. YTD February 2010.
The ‘Investor Hard Talk’ speakers include Joe Sita, President of IFA Hotel Investments, Anass Alami, Director General of Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion, Morocco (CDG), and Richard Riley, CEO of Abu Dhabi National hotels.
Mr. Sita commented: “As with any burgeoning geopolitical situation, it is impossible to predict the impact of any long-term effects on hotel investments. That said, if we look at markets like Thailand which has weathered bouts of civil unrest without significantly impacting long-term investment, we can be hopeful of a similar outcome. Within the region, we believe that Dubai, owing to its stability, will remain as attractive a destination for investment as it has always been.”
In line with the special focus on investors this year, AHIC also offers a new initiative called the ‘Owner & Investor Association’ in 2011. This initiative comes as a response to requests from the industry, and provides a networking platform specifically for hotel owners and investors to interact and share information. It will take the form of an invitation only gathering during AHIC and a conference session entitled ‘The Owners Forum’ with content driven specifically by members.

A World First as Arabian Adventures Receives CEMARS Certification
April 17, 2011 by Editor
Arabian Adventures, a division of the Emirates Group and the region’s leading Destination Management Company (DMC), has been awarded the internationally recognised Certified Emissions Measurement And Reduction Scheme (CEMARS) certification. Over the past 20 years, Arabian Adventures has been at the forefront of developing the tourism industry in the United Arab Emirates. The company is now the first DMC in the world to achieve CEMARS certification.
The CEMARS certification scheme is an integral brand of the internationally recognised carboNZeroCertTM programme, managed by Landcare Research NZ (LCR) – one of the world’s leading organisations in the assessment of carbon footprints and forest sinks.
“The CEMARS certification holds great value for us, as customers now have the option of dealing with a company that takes responsibility for its impact on the global climate. Consumers want to make confident environmental purchasing decisions and the CEMARS certification meets that need,” said Peter Payet, Senior Vice President, Arabian Adventures. “It is important to us to reduce pollution at source rather than carbon offsetting as a way of merely clearing the corporate conscience. The certification cements our commitment to sustainability across all our operational activities by supporting energy efficient initiatives, recognising our carbon liabilities, and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions,” he added.
“A growing number of CEMARS certified organisations rate their certification as a vital component of their environmental initiatives and ongoing success of their business”, said Professor Ann Smith, General Manager Technical at LCR. “It provides tangible and credible recognition for their actions to reduce the impacts of their organisation on climate change. CEMARS certification means Arabian Adventures can now confidently include carbon measurement and reduction claims to support their company values.”
CEMARS certification indicates that the GHG emissions associated with Arabian Adventures’ operations have been measured and independently verified in accordance with international standards. It also recognises the company’s commitment to continuously managing and reducing its emissions.
The certification was issued following a comprehensive GHG emissions inventory assessment carried out by LCR. As part of the inventory, a thorough onsite inspection was conducted across key operational sites including the Emirates Holidays Building, the network of desert camps and the Arabian Adventures Operations Centre at Dubai Investment Park (DIP).
As part of the company’s comprehensive emissions management and reduction plan, key initiatives include using the corporate environmental policy to support vehicle purchases – to ensure the most modern, low emissions vehicles are used in the fleet. Arabian Adventures is also working with various suppliers to trial suitable hybrid vehicles, as well as encouraging drivers to complete a driver training programme focused on techniques to ensure fuel efficient driving. The emissions reduction plan also encompasses an investigation into the use of solar photovoltaic panels at several desert camps used by the company, in order to maximise renewable energy use and reduce emissions from traditional sources.
The CEMARS certification includes an annual assessment process and Arabian Adventures is required to submit data on its GHG emissions yearly. To this end – the company will continue to identify the priority GHG emissions sources and set targets to reduce them. It must also prepare and implement annual emissions management plans, and report GHG emissions reductions, in comparison with its first year of measurement.
