- In winter, warm and earthy tones become popular. Use of dark wood and leather is the right choice for the winter and autumn look, warm lighting and shades of terracotta when mixed with tans and plain neutral creams will be a perfect look for the home. Focus on earthy tones by mixing shades of cream and coffee.
- Getting one of the walls in the room painted instead of doing the whole room is a quick way to make a big change and it’s not costly as well, especially for those who are afraid or not comfortable using bold colors in the room.
- Always use a color wheel or a color chart to choose the right color for a room. Keeping in mind the difference between the warm and cool colors – the warm colors are reds, pinks, oranges, tans, terracotta’s yellow and yellow tinged- creams. The cool colors from the opposite side of the wheel are greens, aqua, blues, blue grays and violets. The perfect balance is to choose or mix the accent color from the opposite side of the wheel with your main color of the room. Study the amount and type of natural light received by a room and then use color to change the atmosphere and visual temperature.
- Adding pattern and design on the wall by using wall paper is another interesting way to make a fresh change to your home this season.
- Change of accessories in the room makes a big difference, such as a colorful rug, print art on the walls, adding colorful cushions on the sofa or on the bed. To add a little color to the setting, shades of peach, light butter yellow and a hint of greens used by mixing small accessories to the room.
- Changing curtains and adding a new design or color to your windows is another way of making a change without much of a fuss.
- Warm lighting and white pure candles gives this setting a calm yet elegant feel.
- An easy way to bring in constant change in the home is to use a neutral color on the walls, so a change in colourful accessories can be brought about without a major overhaul of the furniture.
- By throwing natural elements such as fire, wood, metal, bamboo, fur, jute and water, you can bring nature into your home and create a winter feel.
The new range at Homes r Us aspires to reverberate the warmth of sharing, caring and love in our lives. The decorative accessories with a mélange of exciting designs at Homes r Us is sure to take your breath away and give the new season a wonderful feeling of celebration and enjoyment.

As the region’s leading English language website for women, education in the region is often a hot topic on the ExpatWoman.com website and Managing Director, Jane Drury, wants to help parents and students make informed decisions on all the educational options open to them- both locally and internationally.
“Parents are looking to learn more about school options available, be it Montessori versus traditional nursery, IB versus A levels, or local schools versus boarding or sixth-form college abroad. We are aiming, through this event to fill a big information gap about education,” says ExpatWoman founder, Jane Drury. ”When it comes to tertiary education, typically our children are set on a path to study in our own home countries,” Jane continues. “We tend to follow what we know but these young students are entering an entirely different world-economy and job market to our own experience, and we should all help them explore worldwide options- at least to be better informed of what is available. There are companies here specifically doing that, and helping with application processes.”
“In putting this event together, we have found a huge range of courses of study, both based in this region and represented here. There is so much out there for women looking to get back to work, to refresh old skills or pick up new ones. And for students the summer school and work experience options are tremendous. In the current economic climate, you cannot undervalue the importance of developing an interesting CV.”
The Education Fair is an informal afternoon and evening where adults and younger students can call in to pick up information and ask all those education-related questions in person.
Exhibitors at the Education Fair will cover everything from nursery schools to boarding schools, after school activities to adult learning, post- grad to women’s courses, colleges and universities and everything in between. There are over 40 confirmed participants including E-Zone, the Emirates Academy, Murdoch University, Jebel Ali Nursery, DUCTAC, DESC, Dubai College and many more.

Hospital Build Exhibitors Bring Infection Control Solutions To The UAE
July 11, 2010 by Editor
During the last decade, the healthcare industry has recognised that the physical environment of a hospital or clinic is an important resource that can affect all patients. A first-rate healing environment will emphasise excellent clinical quality and one of the most important principles is to create a safe and comfortable environment that meets the patient’s needs. At the Hospital Build Middle East Exhibition & Congress, currently under way in Dubai, industry experts in the field of healthcare facilities engage in detailed discussion of how such an environment can be created at the healthcare facilities in the Middle East.
The construction, operation and management of a new hospital involves a great deal of planning. Cooperation with a multitude of companies, ranging from furniture designers to caterers, is essential. Maintaining a safe environment in hospitals depends not only on the infrastructure, but also the fittings, equipment and materials that are used on the premises. Hospital Build Middle East brings together the entire spectrum of suppliers, manufacturers and designers who can help create a controlled, safe environment were patients can receive treatment.
Nurture, by Steelcase, is a US-based company that uses research driven design and a holistic approach to provide furniture for use in healthcare facilities. In the GCC region, Nurture has engaged in a strategic alliance with Emitac Healthcare Group to provide healthcare solutions to the United Arab Emirates and the wider Middle East region.
“Nurture is using Hospital Build to raise awareness about evidence based design, sustainability and infection control for healthcare in the Middle East. There is a large contingent of design firms at this exhibition and we need to be here to support them and their projects,” said Abdul R Mokayed, Sales Manager – Healthcare Middle East.
“Infection control is a big consideration for any company engaged in producing furniture for healthcare facilities as the closer you get the patient in a hospital environment, the more vital this becomes. At Nurture, we try to limit the amount of seams we use in our upholstery, and use vapour barriers and acrylic surfaces, among other things, to minimise the risk of infection.”
“Nurture has a bold vision to shape and improve the future of healthcare delivery. We concentrate on space and environments and how products within those environments can help make them more comfortable, more efficient and more conducive to the healing process,” said Kyle Williams, Nurture’s Vice President and General Manager.
Graboplast Rt. is also exhibiting at Hospital Build for the first time. This Hungarian floor covering manufacturer specialises in anti-bacterial contract floor covering for hospitals using nano-silver and nanotechnology to eliminate bacteria from the surface of the floor.
Irma Toth, Export Manager, Graboplast, explains: “Hospital construction in the Middle East is expanding rapidly and we feel our product has a place in this growing market. Infection control is a fundamental consideration in hospital design and our use of nano-titandioxide and silver particles eliminates 99 per cent of viral bacteria from hospital floors, significantly reducing the incidence of hospital bugs such as MRSA and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) bacteria.”
Hospital Build Middle East 2010 plays host to a number of other companies specialising in infection control technologies and products. These include industry front-runners such as Berkvens (partner of Buhindi International), Responsive Industries Limited, Method Enterprise and Vescom Dubai producing a range of products including flooring, doors and frames, stainless steel fittings, upholstery and wall coverings that have in-built anti-bacterial or anti-viral properties, or are designed specifically to reduce infection.
Running alongside the Hospital Build Middle East exhibition is a multi-disciplinary congress consisting of eight leading conferences and is designed as an educational platform for senior managers and decision makers at healthcare facilities. The conference program will address healthcare technology applications, hospital build & design, facilities management, investment & finance, human resources in healthcare, healthcare marketing, workflow management, quality, standards and accreditation, and leaders in healthcare.
Organised by IIR Middle East, the team behind Arab Health, the three-day Hospital Build Middle East Exhibition & Congress will continue on 3 June, 2010, from 10.00am to 6.00pm. Trade visitors have unlimited access to the exhibition, and may register their participation any time during the event.
