Visually Stunning Sport Performance Acapulco High Dive Show Attracts Crowds At Global Village

Global Village, the premier cultural, shopping and family entertainment destination, today announced the ’Acapulco High Dive Show’ is attracting hundreds of visitors during its four shows that each lasts 20 minutes every evening.
Combining Olympic style diving and acrobatic action, the visually stunning and spectacular sport show will continue to attract crowds until 26 February, 2011.
The high-class sport performance, full of energy and vigour, involves a world-class athlete diving from a staggering 80ft platform into a 10ft deep and 26ft diameter portable pool at the speed of over 90kph.
The performance also includes a stunt man diving as a human torch, engulfed in a blazing inferno, into a pool of water.
To the delight of onlookers, performers demonstrate the dangers involved in the super human acts and highlight interesting facts on the physics involved such as speed and impact.
The 111-day new season at the Global Village that opened its 15th season on 10 November, 2010 will run until 28 February, 2011. It is featuring 28 pavilions from over 45 countries, showcasing a colourful array of heritage and handicrafts.

Crowds swarm malls on first day of Eid in Dubai

Crowds swarmed select malls on the first day of ‘Eid in Dubai’ as international character shows, carnivals, heritage tents, and fireworks made for a busy Eid itinerary for children and families. ‘Eid in Dubai’, organized by the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, will go on till September 12, with the back-to-school funfair and exhibition at Airport Expo Dubai running till September 18 at the Airport Expo Dubai. Atlantis, The Palm, also hosted fireworks and organized amazing promotions to welcome Eid visitors.
Mirdif City Centre
The Central Galleria was the hub of Eid activity at Mirdif City Centre as Ben 10, Hello Kitty, and the Freej Show proved to be a massive success with children and families alike. Apart from watching brilliantly choreographed shows, children were treated to spectacular stage settings including specialized sound and lighting. An Eid tent at the Galleria welcomed shoppers and families with coffee and dates in accordance with the traditional Eid custom of ushering in guests. A colourful Eid carnival also added to the celebrations at the mall.
Mall of the Emirates
The adorable purple dinosaur Barney joined Baby Bop and BJ in a musical titled Barney’s Beach Party at Mall of the Emirates. Popular with children of all ages, the character show is famous for Barney’s Hula Dance that gets everyone dancing. On September 12, the mall will also host stilt walkers, jugglers, and an ‘Eid in Dubai’ carnival.
Dubai Festival City
The Dino Live Exhibition was the highlight of Eid festivities at Dubai Festival City. The world’s largest movable dinosaur show features life sized moving dinosaur models and entry is priced at just AED 50 per person. Visitors were also treated to a stunning display of fireworks and laser display that lit up the night sky over the waterfront. People were also treated to heritage tents and welcomed in the traditional Emarati way with coffee and dates.
Airport Expo Dubai
The back-to-school exhibition and funfair were the main highlights at Airport Expo Dubai as families crowded the venue for the best back-to-school stationery and exciting games and rides at the funfair. To add to the festivity, the venue also hosted the international character show Lazytown, for free. Entrance to the venue is free for all.
Kids Fashion Week Attracts Crowds To Deira City Centre

Kids Fashion Week, a signature event of DSS, brings some of the renowned names in children’s fashion to the ramp at Deira City Centre. To be held till August 7, the week-long event features the latest trends in international children’s fashion. The shows will be held at 6:30pm everyday.
Brands being showcased this year include A2Z, Sanrio, Zara Kids, Stadium, Okaidi, Woolworths, United Colors of Bennetton, Carnival 4 All, and Classy Style.

The international character show SpongeBob SquarePants’ Stories of SpongeBob is attracting crowds to Dubai Festival City as the show continues at the Festival Centre. Brought exclusively by the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, the show is free and runs until August 7 when Dubai Summer Surprises ends.
Show timings are 4:30pm and 6:30pm (Saturday to Wednesday) and 4:30pm, 6:30pm and 8pm (Thursday and Friday). There are no shows on Mondays.
Dora The Explorer’s Best Friends Day Opens To Crowds At Mirdif City Centre

Nickelodeon’s Dora The Explorer’s Best Friends Day opened to a huge gathering of children at Mirdif City Centre on July 6 as the international character show, part of the Dubai Summer Surprises itinerary, got off to a rousing start.
The official opening was attended by Yousif Mubarak, Chief Operations Officer of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), Mohammed Al Kamali, Acting Marketing Director of DEPE, and Yousif Al Ali, Vice President of Mirdif City Centre who welcomed the young audience before the first show began. Being held at the central galleria in Mirdif City Centre, the fun filled kids show is free for all and will run till the 21st of July.
Staged in the UAE for the first time, Dora the Explorer and her best friend Boots celebrate Best Friend’s Day by celebrating the day together for a picnic on Rainbow Rock. But first they need to find it! The exciting, educational adventure begins as Dora and Boots set off on a musical adventure with the help of the audience to find their special picnic spot using English and Spanish vocabulary. There will be no shows on Mondays.

A DSS signature event, Deira City Centre will be hosting the Kids Fashion Week for the second year in a row. The event will feature a display of the most colourful and coolest designs dedicated to young fashionistas, as glitzy and glam as the grown up versions. This mini fashion week will feature shows starring the local catwalk stars of tomorrow and some trendy creations that will be the inspiration for the youngster’s summer wardrobe.

For the mall’s junior visitors, popular children’s heroine, Dora the Explorer, will be entertaining guests with her very own interactive musical edutainment stage show held at the mall’s central galleria.

A family oriented event for children aged 8 months to 15 years and their parents. The event involves sporting activities and competitions for especially for children; tailor made to suit the excitement levels of those tiny tots who otherwise may be left out, it is an opportunity for all the little ones to exploit their skills in a series of spirited challenges.
Cirque Le Masque – August 1-8
The gravity-defying performers of Cirque Le Masque bring an entirely new dimension to circus arts. In this sophisticated, European-style circus, with brilliantly costumed jugglers, acrobats, comics, and aerialists perform gasp-inducing acts of balance, grace, strength and detailed teamwork, set to spellbinding special effects and creatively inventive lighting, choreography and music.

Mall of the Emirates has also lined up many activities for its visitors such as Toys Alive, The Grilts – Land of the Giants, The Giants Parade and Hairspray – The Musical. Visitors will also have an opportunity to marvel at the superb unicyclist and juggling skills of the Amazing Valerie along with the thrill of meeting Modhesh and other DSS characters.
Toys Alive – 15 July-3 August
A chance for mall visitors to watch the Toy Soldier come alive and march up and down to protect his fellow toys. There is also the opportunity to get up-close with the dancing Ballerina who teaches children how to do the ribbon dance and meet the Rag Doll who loves to talk and have her photograph taken with visitors.
The Grilts – Land of the Giants – 18 July-7 August
Get ready to be amazed as three metre tall giants inhabit the Mall. They are not camera shy, and they love visitors to take their photographs! Young visitors can also have the chance to be lifted off the ground to show them what the world looks like from three metres high.
The Amazing Valerie – 11 July- 7 August
Valerie is all geared up to amaze visitors with her juggling talents as she makes her way around the Mall on her very own unicycle. The mix of bright costumes, juggling and incredible unicycle skills brings a truly circus feel to Mall of the Emirates.
The Giants Parade – 11 July-4 August
Visitors can experience just what it is like to be an ant as they are towered over by our trio of three metre tall giants. They are perfect for having a family photograph with – if they can be fit into the photo!
Extracts from Hairspray – The Musical – July 12-14
The cast from the musical show Hairspray perform extracts from the show being staged at DUCTAC. Featuring the cast from the hit show from London’s West End, their bright costumes and energetic performances will make you want to dance your way around the Mall of the Emirates as you do your shopping.
World Of Stories Officially Opens To Crowds Of Children

World of Stories, a signature event of Dubai Summer Surprises 2010 officially opened to crowds on Saturday, June 19 at Mercato. The event was attended by Yousif Mubarak, Chief Operations Officer of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, in addition to crowds of children and members of the Modhesh Friends Club.
World of Stories this year features the theme of the famous character Alice and transports viewers into her exciting wonderland. Show timings are 4:30pm, 5:30pm, and 7:30pm. World of Stories will go on till June 29 and is open to visitors for free.
Characters portrayed through the 3D theme of “World of Stories” this year include Sinbad, Aslan, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, Snow White, Bambi, Mr Tumnus, Ali Baba, Cinderella, Aladdin, Robin Hood, Dorothy, Tinkerbell, Peter Pan, Dumbo, Mary Poppins, and Harry Potter. Visitors to Mercato will be welcomed by a 3D magic eye gallery through the walkway leading to the Porto Vecchio area. The gallery will be open throughout mall hours.
Children that love art and craft can head to the balcony above the stage where the area will be themed on the Mad Hatter’s Tea party from Alice in Wonderland. Numerous art and craft activities are being organised throughout the event from 3pm to 5:30pm and from 6pm to 8pm.
Apart from seeing their favourite cartoon characters live on stage, children can also hear exciting stories in the storytelling area between 3 and 3:30pm and from 6:15pm to 7:10pm. To add to all the excitement, a caterpillar mascot will roam the mall every hour giving mall visitors a photo opportunity.
Crowds Throng Dubai Mall For Final Shows Of Hello Kitty’s Jungle Party

Hundreds of families showed up at Dubai Mall, a key sponsor of DSS, for the final two show of Hello Kitty’s Jungle Party on July 22, marking the end to the one of the most successful DSS stage shows held this year. Children and parents evidently enjoyed the last shows as they danced, sang and had fun at the photo opportunity with Hello Kitty, Dear Daniel, My Melody, Minna No Tabo and Bad Badtz Maru.
Mohammed and Bader Al Juwaisri from Kuwait said, “We enjoy our travel to Dubai because of such kind of family entertainment. Our children like the fun atmosphere here. It is a truly wonderful experience for our whole family.”
The same sentiment was shared by David Baron, an American national, who attended the show with his kids Jordan and Whitney. He said, “This [Hello Kitty Jungle Party] is awesome. There should be more of such shows in Dubai. The children learn and have fun at the same time. The parents also enjoy their time with their kids. It’s a great celebration of family activities.”
Mine Reith, a British national who was spotted at the event with daughter Sher and friend Kris said, “Being here is a fantastic way of spending quality time with my child. Plus, we need more free shows as amazing as this one. It’s such a terrific activity that adds up to the excitement of our shopping experience.”
Mercato Events Attract Crowds

This past week-end, visitors to Mercato were treated to a creative dose of Art. The mall launched “Art Fiesta” last week with a spectacular array of events related to Art and this will continue until the 18th of July.
The art focus kicked off with a painting exhibition entitled “Harmony” by the talented artist Rupali Rao. The exhibition started on 5th July and runs daily until 18th July at the fountain area in Mercato. This Dubai-based artist brings colour and excitement into the mall with her beautiful multi-colored pieces inspired by Dubai’s distinctive locations. The exhibition is open to the public free of charge during mall hours.
The two free daily art work shops – held on the first floor near the food court- are proving to be a very welcoming hub for children of different ages. From 11am to 1pm children are invited to participate in all kinds of very interesting creative activities assisted by the artist Rupali Rao – from pastel sketching and air painting to clay modeling, group painting and painting to the beat of music, called “Dancing Fingers”.
Then between 2pm & 4pm the Susan Walpole drawing & colouring competitions is also held for all children, with wonderful prizes to be won! Prize winners will be given the chance to name the newly designed Susan Walpole camel and what’s more – if you hand in your competition entry at the Susan Walpole store, you will receive a discount on camel soft toys.
Both workshops will run until Saturday 18th July and it costs nothing to participate except some artistic inspiration!
What’s more, on the weekend of 16th, 17th and 18th July, between 6:30pm and 10pm mall visitors can enjoy performances by the talented locally based choir “Dubai Voices”. A group of 16 gifted singers will perform a variety of styles from musicals to popular chart songs and everything in between. Performing songs in English, Arabic and other languages, the choir is set to wow visitors.
Throughout the “Art Fiesta” in Mercato, the family fun will continue with even more shows and of course the chance to win a Mercedes Benz CLK, a luxury holiday for four to Cyprus or cash prizes up to Dhs5 million when spending in any outlet in the mall.

Dubai Voices mesmerizes crowds in Al Ghurair City

Dubai Voices, a group of young multi-national resident singers that wowed crowds in Deira City Centre and BurJuman in their first two shows, thrilled Al Ghurair City shoppers in their third show. Performing every Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays till August 14th, the group will be in Al Ghurair City till July 11th.Lead by Bryan Furtado, a singer, actor, dancer, music teacher, and the musical director of the group, Dubai Voices performs three different acts featuring interpretations of Broadway musicals, classic pop, jazz, world music, and other popular songs. The three acts will be performed at 6:40, 7:45, and 9:30 respectively.As a multicultural choir, Dubai Voices performs songs in English, Arabic, Tagalog, and Persian. Act 1 includes musicals such as the self titled musical That’s Entertainment, Circle of Life from Lion King, and Dancing Queen from Mamma Mia. Act 2 features pop songs such as Sing by the Carpenters, Shak Bhak Shakabit by Nancy Ajram, and Does your mother know by ABBA. Act 3 features songs such as Cruisin by Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis, Beat Box – an original composition, popular Spanish number Desperado, Halla Vay Vay – a Persian and Arabic song, and Song of the Emirates – originally composed by an Australian resident in Dubai in the 1970s and reworked for the show by Bryan Furtado.
