Galleries Passengers Double At Downtown Jebel Ali Station On Metro Monday, Says Limitless

Downtown Jebel Ali’s Metro station saw a dramatic increase in passengers at rush hour this morning, with hundreds of passengers swapping road for rail in support of Limitless’ Metro Monday initiative.

Among them were 400 people who work at The Galleries at Downtown Jebel Ali, Limitless’ flagship project in Dubai. On an average day, 200 Galleries tenants travel by train.

Bahaa Abouhatab, Project Director at The Galleries, who also took the train today, said: “We’ve had a great response to Metro Monday, which is designed to encourage a long-term change in travel habits by reducing car dependency in Dubai. Many people who used the Metro to reach The Galleries today did so for the first time, and have confirmed their intention to use it more regularly from now on.”

One such traveller is Sharmilee Jennifer, who took the train from Karama to Downtown Jebel Ali this morning. She said: “My journey was easy, cost-effective and clean, and I didn’t need to rely on my husband or friends to give me a lift to work. I fully intend to swap road for rail more regularly from now on.”

Public Transport Agency Signs Strategic Partnership Agreement With Double Decker Bus Tours

The Public Transport Agency, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has recently signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement with Double Decker Bus Tours LLC providing for the two parties to draw up joint strategies and plans to link the services of the Big Bus of Double Decker Bus Tours LLC; which is subject of a huge attention from a wide spectrum of visitors and tourists pouring in Dubai from various corners of the globe, with RTA’s marine transit modes; in a step aimed to boost the marine transit service in the Emirate.

In a gathering held by the two parties at RTA’s Head Office, Umm Al Ramool, the Agreement was signed on behalf of the RTA by the CEO of RTA Public Transport Agency Eisa Abdul-Rahman Al Dosari, and on behalf of Double Decker Bus Tours LLC by the General Manager Chris Crompton.

Speaking on the event, the CEO of Public Transport Authority Eisa Abdul-Rahman Al Dosari said, “Through signing this partnership Agreement, the Public Transport Agency will work with Double Decker Bus Tours LLC to achieve a host of objectives and strategic goals which will be to the benefit of the tourist marine transport, reflect positively on the economic & social fields, and boost the tourist industry of the Dubai Emirate. This will be materialized through Double Decker Bus Tours LLC directing its tourists arriving in Dubai to use the Water Bus in their travels within the Dubai Emirate; which will enrich their tourist experience in an enjoyable and comfortable manner.

“The Public Transport Agency will offer tourists dispatched by Double Decker Bus Tours LLC the opportunity of riding the Water Bus and treating themselves to an enjoyable marine cruise between the two shores of the Dubai Creek,” added Al Dosari.

Double Delight For flydubai As Two New Routes Announced

flydubai has announced a duo of new routes taking Dubai’s first low cost airline’s network to 26 destinations.

Sulaimaniyah in Iraq and Yerevan in Armenia are the two new routes, giving travellers even more diverse destinations to visit when they begin their inaugural services in November, 2010.

flydubai CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith said: “Our two new destinations are both to incredibly important markets for flydubai. Sulaimaniyah is our second route in Iraqi Kurdistan, following on from the start of flights to Erbil in August.

“The service to the Armenian capital Yerevan is a totally new market for us, but similarly, a very important one. As a city Yerevan has a long history, being inhabited from the 8th century BC, meaning there is thousands of years of history to be explored and discovered, while the modern city has much to offer too,” he added.

“The service to Sulaimaniyah underlines flydubai’s commitment and confidence in the country of Iraq, which has attracted a lot of investment from the UAE, helping grow trade links and cement ties between the two nations.”

Sulaimaniyah is a major city in the northern Kurdistan region of Iraq. A much younger city than some of its neighbours, with history stretching back to the 18th century, Sulaimaniyah has grown to be a large city, with around 800,000 inhabitants.

The city is surrounded by three mountain ranges and several hills, and has what are often regarded as some of the most fertile agricultural lands in the region. Agriculture plays a big part of the city’s economy, as well as a vibrant tourism industry.

The city is divided by the Hrazdan River, with the river gorge offering a spectacular feature to the capital.

The city is one of Armenia’s major tourist destinations, with a wealth of culture, history and modernity providing an eclectic mix that is unique to ancient cities such as Yerevan.

The service to Sulaimaniyah begins on November 24, flying twice a week to the Iraqi city. Flight FZ205 departs Dubai at 2215hrs and lands in Iraq at 0025hrs local time. Service FZ206 from Sulaimaniyah to Dubai leaves at 0110hrs and arrives at Dubai International Airport Terminal 2 at 0440hrs local time. A one way flight from Dubai begins at AED 1225. Flights from Sulaimaniyah to Dubai start at USD 315 one way.

Flights to Yerevan start on November 21 with the service operating two times a week, going to thrice weekly from December 15. Flight FZ715 departs Dubai at 1010hrs, arriving in the Armenian capital at 1335hrs local time. The return service FZ716 leaves Yerevan at 1420hrs and touches down in Dubai at 1725hrs local time. Prices from Dubai to Yerevan start at AED 590 and a one way flight from Yerevan begins at USD 190. flydubai has a simple model where customers only pay for services they want to receive. The price of the flight includes all taxes, once piece of hand luggage weighing up to 10kg, and one piece of checked baggage, per passenger.

Double Delight In Hong Kong As Emirates A380 Touches Down on National Day

Emirates airline helped National Day celebrations get under way as its Airbus A380 flew into Hong Kong for the first time just hours before a dazzling fireworks display lit up the iconic harbour skyline.

With festivities in full swing across the city, the super-jumbo landed at Hong Kong International Airport to mark the start of its daily A380 service connecting Hong Kong and Dubai, via Bangkok.

EK384 was welcomed by a water canon salute as Hong Kong became the 11th destination on Emirates’ global network to be served by the most environmentally advanced commercial aircraft in the skies.

Richard Jewsbury, Emirates’ Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Far East and Australasia, said: “It was tremendous that our Airbus A380 made its maiden flight to Hong Kong on a day of national celebration.

“Hong Kong is a thriving commercial hub and – along with Greater China – is integral to the future growth of the world economy. This economic strength makes it a key market for Emirates and we are delighted to be bolstering our commitment to the region by bringing our flagship aircraft to Hong Kong.

“The 517-seat double-decker will help meet the growing demand for seats on this route, particularly in Business and First Class, while offering our passengers the chance to enjoy the premium A380 experience.”

The aircraft was also warmly received by Hong Kong International Airport.

Mr Stanley Hui, Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong, said: “We have a long established relationship with Emirates which goes back to 1991 and the announcement by Emirates that they will operate their Airbus A380 aircraft between Hong Kong and Dubai signifies an important development in our partnership.

“Hong Kong International Airport is already A380 capable, and we are glad to welcome the Emirates A380 aircraft operating to HKIA on National Day.”

Edwin Lau, Emirates’ Vice President, Greater China, added: “This is an exciting time for Emirates in the region with the arrival of the Hong Kong A380 service coming just two months after we launched the super-jumbo service between Dubai and Beijing.

“Having operated on the route for almost two decades, Hong Kong has played an increasingly important role in our global network. In addition to connecting passengers to more than 100 destinations around the world, we disperse a large volume of cargo.

“Each week more than 2300 tonnes of freight is transported by Emirates across the belly-hold capacity of 14 passenger flights and 19 dedicated freighter services operated by Emirates SkyCargo,” added Mr Lau, who presented a commemorative model of the iconic aircraft to Mr Norman Lo, Director General of the Civil Aviation Department, and Mr Stephen Kwok, Assistant Director-General, Air Services.

The new A380 service will depart Dubai at 03:15 hrs, arrive in Bangkok at 12:25 hrs before departing at 13:45 hrs for a 17:40 hrs arrival in Hong Kong. It will return as EK385, departing Hong Kong at 22:25 hrs, arriving in Thailand at 00:05 hrs the next day before departing at 01:25 hrs and arriving in Dubai at 04:30 hrs.

Emirates’ luxurious A380 products include two onboard shower spas in the First Class cabin, featuring signature amenities by the airline’s premium spa brand, Timeless Spa.

For First and Business Class passengers, the onboard lounge is the social highlight, featuring a fully-stocked bar and a selection of hot and cold canapés.

Flat-bed massage-equipped private suites await passengers in First Class, while in Business Class there is a new generation of all-aisle flat-bed seats, while those travelling in Economy Class can stretch out in seats with a pitch of up to 33 inches.

In addition – from the 31st October – the aircraft will make its much-anticipated return to New York with its non-stop service between Dubai and JFK.

Emirates will continue to offer its passengers the option of a non-stop daily service between Hong Kong and Dubai, currently operated by a Boeing 777-300ER.

Double Digit Growth For BMW Used Car Sales In The Middle East

Sales across the Middle East for BMW Premium Selection, the company’s pre-owned car programme, increased by 89% for January to June 2010, over the same period in 2009.

Overall, 1,031 BMW Premium Selection cars were sold across seven markets with Saudi Arabia achieved the highest volumes in sales, with 209 cars sold followed by Abu Dhabi Motors with 207 cars sold. AGMC, the exclusive importer in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates followed Abu Dhabi Motors with 202 pre-owned cars sold during the first six months of 2010.

Bahrain showed the highest growth, with sales of 161 vehicles, an increase of 83%. Sales in Kuwait were also up by 25% when compared to the same period last year.
