Al Tayer Visits RTAs Employees Expo

Roads & Transport Authority – Mohammed Al Munji: His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), renewed RTA’s support and encouragement of projects undertaken by male & female employees, and stressed the importance of paving the way for private entrepreneurships, and fostering the investment spirit among young Emiratis in a bid to help them diversify their private income sources.

Al Tayer made this statement during a tour he recently made to RTA’s Employees Expo, held by the Authority Human Resources & Development Dep’t for the second straight year, accompanied by RTA’s Board Member and CEO Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, and CEO of RTA’s Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector Yousef Al Rida.

During the tour, Al Tayer was briefed by the Director of Human Resources & Development Kawther Kazim about the range of products on display in the exhibition, which comprised about 17 stands in which participants exhibited a variety of products that included different designs and tailoring of gowns & abayas, accessories, perfumes, incense, plenty of gold & diamond designs, and children items such as bedding & bags along with traditional jewelries, books, office supplies, crystal lights, and assorted array of cups .

Al Tayer was impressed by the range of products on display and hailed the game endeavours of male and female employees to break into the business and investment world adopting innovative means enabling them to compete and attract customers. He also praised the initiative of the Human Resources & Development Department in organizing this Exhibition; which would promote employees private businesses and offer them a platform to showcase their products among their colleagues at the workplace.

“The UAE always supports youth projects and extend to them all facilities needed to help them upgrade their business activities and introduce pioneering concepts. It also lends support to SME considering them a key driver of the national economy as reflected in the numerous organizations that support youth projects in various Emirates,” stated Al Tayer.

Commenting on the Exhibition, the CEO of RTA Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector Yousef Al Rida said: “The Expo comprises a range of diverse products that reflect advanced and admirable creative concepts. Such products are of particular importance as they enable female and male employees easily engage in the business and investment world, starting from offering these products to their colleagues. The importance of holding such expos at the workplace need not be emphasized as they contribute to promoting & fostering the latent talents and concepts of employees and grooming them to enter the business world in future.

“Government agencies do lend support and encouragement to Emirati youth to practice private business and develop new ideas that help augment their revenues and raise satisfaction rating among all concerned parties. Therefore, they bolster the SME of youth through a range of multiple projects in place intended to support this creative segment and encourage others to work,” he added.

The Director of Human Resources & Development Kawther Kazim commended the interest and participation of multi-talented employees in this Expo held for the second time running. Exhibitors, whose number reached 17 male and female employees, showcased their talents, concepts and products adopting advanced display methods in an effort to capture the attention of others. Such activities will have substantial contribution to promoting the investment spirit and diversifying the income sources of Emirati employees.”


Emirates Group Employees Receive Chairmans Award For Excellence

A total of 15 Emirates Group employees were recognized for their commitment to excellence today by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, the Chairman and Chief Executive Emirates Airline and Group, during an award ceremony held at the Emirates Group Headquarters.

The annual Najm Chairman’s Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of Emirates staff. Hundreds of Emirates Group employees were nominated for the coveted award and after a comprehensive selection process Sheikh Ahmed selected and named the winning candidates.

“I am honoured by the level of commitment and dedication all Emirates Group employees have for their jobs, selecting only a few people to receive this award is always a difficult task,” said Sheikh Ahmed. “While we saw hundreds of examples of outstanding work this year, I felt the achievements of these individuals deserved the highest form of recognition,” he added.

In total six individual and team achievements were acknowledged with three of these stemming from outstanding levels of teamwork, an attribute highly regarded within the Emirates Group.

Najm is the Emirates Group’s reward and recognition programme for outstanding individual and team performance. The programme is designed around the three pillars of commitment, excellence and innovation.

The achievements of the winners covered a number of diverse areas; from the development and implementation of a new system to monitor the emissions from Emirates aircraft, delivering a baby onboard an Emirates flight to Doha and the stringent implementation of Emirates safety procedures.

Sheikh Ahmed congratulated the winners at a ceremony watched by hundreds of the winners’ families, friends and colleagues. Each of the winners was rewarded with a crystal trophy, a certificate signed by Sheikh Ahmed and a AED 15,000 cash award.

“These winners’ have shown great aptitude and resourcefulness, the very attributes that have driven the growth of the Emirates Group. As we expand I am confident that our burgeoning team will continue to deliver the outstanding levels of excellence that the Emirates Group is renowned for,” said Sheikh Ahmed.

The Emirates Group currently has 50,000 employees around the globe.
 


Dubai Islamic Bank Gathers Employees For An Evening Of Celebration And Awards

Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), the world’s first Islamic bank and the largest Sharia-compliant financial institution in the UAE, recently marked its 36th anniversary with a celebratory event for its employees. The event, held at the World Trade Centre, Dubai, was presided over by His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director-General of His Highness The Ruler’s Court of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Islamic Bank.

Attended by DIB Board members, senior management and employees, the event combined entertainment, games and prizes followed by the Performance Excellence award ceremony for DIB employees. The Dubai Islamic Bank Performance Excellence Awards were launched in 2002, creating a platform for internal development among DIB staff in order to provide the highest standards of service and customer satisfaction. The award focuses on rewarding outstanding achievements of employees and departments. Awards were also presented for long service.

“DIB is an institution that has made history and paved the way for modern Islamic Banking,” said Abdulla Al Hamli, CEO, DIB. “This event is an opportunity for the Board and the management to thank everyone in the bank for their hard work and effort which has made DIB the number one Islamic institution in the UAE.”
 


Dubai Trade Honours Its Employees And Strategic Partners

Dubai Trade, the innovative online service provider of Dubai World, hosted a special event to honour its employees, strategic partners and their executives who have played critical roles in the implementation of major projects, to make trade easier, during 2010 – 2011.

Special mementos and certificates of appreciation were presented at a gala ceremony by Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, and Board Member, Dubai Trade, and Mahmood Al Bastaki, Director, Dubai Trade, to more than 50 executives from DP World, Dubai Customs, Economic Zones World, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, and ITC, the group shared service providers, in addition to Dubai Trade’s own employees.

The projects included Phase II of Contact Centre, data compilation for the World Bank’s “Doing Business” Report, upgrading of single sign-on infrastructure, the E-Services Excellence Award (ESEA) 2010, the upgrading of the portal, www.dubaitrade.ae, and the Certified Trade & Logistics Professional (CTLP) programme, a Certification Course initiated and developed by Dubai Trade and accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport.

The numbers of e-services Dubai Trade offers its customers also rose by 12% to 758 during the same period.

The record breaking number of transactions was reached as Dubai Trade has consistently updated and expanded its portfolio of integrated innovative services to serve the growing clientele of DP World, Economic Zones World, Dubai Customs and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).


Imdaad Gathers Over 300 Employees For Clean-Up Drive At Jebel Ali Free Zone

Imdaad, a leading provider of integrated facilities management solutions in the UAE, has revealed that over 300 employees and senior managers today (December 12, 2010) participated in a clean up drive at the Jebel Ali Free Zone. The activity was part of the Clean Up UAE campaign, an initiative organised by the Emirates Environmental Group that allows the government, business community and individuals to positively demonstrate their care and concern for the environment.

The site of the clean-up campaign was facilitated through the efforts of Dr. Hamad Al Hashemi, Managing Director of Dubai Institute of Technology, the R&D arm of Economic Zones World (EZW). All waste collected during the activity was transported to recycling facilities and dump yards using Imdaad’s waste disposal trucks.

Jamal Abdulla Lootah, CEO, Imdaad, said: "Imdaad’s business model and its vision for the future are built around our passionate commitment to help protect and conserve the environment. More Than 70 Rotana Employees Participated In The Clean Up UAE 20103 Campaign

Volunteers from Rotana Hotels in Dubai and Northern Emirates contributed to the “Clean up UAE 2010” campaign on Sunday 12th of December 2010, which was organized by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), UAE’s leading environmental organization.

“This initiative is a result of Rotana’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and our ongoing efforts to promote general awareness amongst our employees, in regards to the various effective methods to help serve the community and environment” said Omer Kaddouri, Chief Operating Officer of Rotana.

The team of more than 70 employees, coming from different Rotana properties in Dubai and Sharjah met in Nad Al Sheba area and worked together hand in hand to clean up the area and managed to help collecting, an approximate total of 35 Tonnes of waste.

This is one of a few projects that will certainly assist in strengthening the value and sense of responsibility towards practices that assure safer, cleaner and “greener” environment for generations to come.

“Rotana has been participating in this annual world event and working together with the Dubai Municipality to promote good practices of keeping a safe and healthy environment and we are looking forward for an even stronger participation in the 2011 campaign!” concluded Kaddouri.
 


Etisalat Graduates Employees From Its Future Leadership Programmes At Metamorphosis 2010: Reaching Triumph

Etisalat recently graduated 78 of its UAE National employees who have been enrolled in customised development courses, namely the Future Leaders and Young Professionals Programmes. The employees were honoured during “Metamorphosis 2010: Reaching Triumph”, an annual event arranged by Etisalat for its employees which promotes leadership and inspiration.

The event, which was held at the World Trade Centre in Dubai, covered a number of topics, including leadership, lessons from the global financial crisis and the latest strategies that companies need to adopt during challenging times. The event was attended by key speaker Stephane Garelli, a Professor at the Institute for Management Development (IMD) and the Director of IMD’s World Competitiveness Center. Etisalat’s top management, as well as more than 800 senior staff and associates, were present.

Etisalat Chairman Mohammad Omran, said: “Etisalat has worked hard since it was formed to develop and utilise the abilities of UAE nationals. Etisalat facilitates a number of programmes and initiatives to further develop leadership and related skills within the UAE workforce, in line with the UAE government’s vision for Emiratisation. As a result of its ongoing strategy, 90 per cent of Etisalat upper management are UAE nationals.”

Metamorphosis 2010 kicked off with a speech from Nasser Bin Obood, Etisalat Acting Chief Executive Officer, who discussed the importance of leadership in our lives, both professional and personal, and how Etisalat is promoting and encouraging leadership skills among its staff.

Bin Obood also highlighted the importance of human capital development, saying:
“We believe the key factor for long-term growth is the development of our human capital and the creation of a pool of talented, educated employees”.

He also added: “Each new market we enter requires a different strategy as no two markets are the same. Hence, we need to ensure we have the right human capital and leadership skills to be able to understand different cultures, norms and regulations in different markets to ultimately work as effectively as possible as 70 local employees are managing Etisalat international subsidiaries .

“A key learning we can bring out of this is to always be prepared and think ahead. It is absolutely vital that all of us – as individuals and companies – regularly review our business strategies, plans, and objectives to stay prepared,” he concluded.

This significant event celebrated another milestone with the graduation of Etisalat’s talent pool, among them, the "Young Professionals Programme – Cohort 4", the “Future Leaders Programme – Professional Phase, Cohort 2” and the “Future Leaders Programme – Expert Phase, Cohort 2”. In Addition, as part of Etisalat’s ongoing commitment to motivate staff and recognize their hard work, Etisalat management rewarded the staff who displayed and achieved outstanding levels of performance during 2010.

iPhone Application Developed By RTA Female Employees Released

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has released its first e-service compatible with the smart phone “iPhone” in Gitex 2010 whereby users can obtain all information related to the Metro stations on the Red Line, journeys, Metro Offence Code and various types of Nol cards.

Commenting on the new e-service, the CEO of Corporate Technical Support Services Sector Abdullah Al Madani said: “A team of RTA Information Technology Department has been developing this service internally with the aim of offering improved service, providing handy information about the Metro and Nol cards, which are the main inquired after services, to customers and enabling them open new information channels”.

About the mechanism of this service Al Madani said: “This service can be downloaded from the website (Apple store) free of charge for iPhone users. Moreover, any visitor to RTA Stand at Giteix (Rashid Hall) can download the software which provides all the above information in four main sections: Dubai Metro, Unified Card, About the RTA, and Contacting the RTA”.

The CEO of Corporate Technical Support Services Sector further added that the provision of this service was compatible with the applications of the e-Government of Dubai aimed at providing an electronic platform matching to the highest global standards applicable in this regard.
