Fostering Collaboration Between Dubai Carbon Centre Of Excellence And United Nations Development Programme

Within the framework of mutual collaboration between Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE) and the United Nations Development Programme( UNDP) in the UAE, Engineer Waleed Ali Salman, Chairman of DCCE received Gordon Johnson, deputy of resident representative of the United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP)  in the UAE, recently appointed  to handle carbon activities.

The two sides discussed the latest developments and updates regarding   the common projects between DCCE and UNDP. Also, they tackled ways of developing and expanding the correlative fields of cooperation between the two sides.

On this occasion, His Excellency Saeed Mohamed Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy stated: "Being the first of its kind in the Middle East in terms of specialty in carbon emissions’ reduction, DCCE provides cutting-edge expertise aiming to develop eco-friendly initiatives and assuming an effective role for a cleaner and purer environment."

"DCCE works correlatively to strengthen Dubai’s capabilities in the field of reducing carbon emissions through the mechanism of clean development. Reducing carbon emissions has become one of the most serious issues which the world faces nowadays, as it negatively influences the environment, economy and quality of life," His Excellency further added.

Engineer Waleed Ali Salman, Chairman of DCCE, pointed out: "During the meeting, we tackled the progress of the current projects as well as future strategies of the centre. Nowadays, the most effective ways to minimize carbon emissions lie within economic sectors themselves. DCCE is aspiring to be a drive for carbon trading among organizations in Dubai, and to support governmental initiatives aiming to improve their environmental efficiency in the Emirate.

 All these endeavors intend to facilitate and streamline Dubai’s drive towards an economy with low carbon emissions from environmental, economical and social aspects in a responsible way. Moreover, the Centre aims to unprecedentedly respond to the Emirate’s world responsibilities to address climate change in a way that leads to environmental sustainability and economic profits."

DCCE was launched in 2011 as per the directives from His Highness Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai’s Supreme Council of Energy, through an agreement executed between Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the United Nations Development Programme."

DCCE was set up as a mutual project between public sector and private sector. This centre encompasses Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubal, ENOC and Estidama. This Centre aims to push forward the wheel of projects during the last years of KYOTO Protocol. DCCE is regarded as the first of its kind in the region, and it aims to make the best use of carbon in the Emirate of Dubai through the mechanism of clean development implementing the best practices in the field of reducing carbon emissions.

Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence is a key component of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, which spares no effort to develop an economy based on sustainable energy.


Al Tayer Honours RTA Best Scoring Departments In The Standards Of Dubai Government Excellence Program

Roads & Transport Authority – Mohammed Al Munji: His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) highlighted the importance of having in place a distinctive national leadership at various business levels, stating that, during the last five years, RTA provided all forms of support & resources, implemented development projects and introduced a host of motivational tools with a view to building and qualifying capable national leaders at all work sites and organizational levels.

Al Tayer recently made these remarks in an event held to honour the best RTA departments based on the results of the internal assessment of departments carried out on the basis of the Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) 2010, in the presence of RTA’s CEOs and Directors.

“RTA is keen on promoting its human resources and uplifting the caliber of its young promising leaders as they are the backbone of positive strategic thinking of the RTA; which has rolled out several training programs such as Qiyadi Program targeting 40 Directors and Managers nominated to take up senior management positions. It also initiated the Improvement of Individual Performance of RTA Directors Program, aimed at qualifying 140 Directors and Managers through offering them 16 different courses, and the Pioneering Program aimed at educating RTA leadership on the policies, regulations and vital processes. It also instituted the Knowledge Transfer to Rail Agency Employees Program, and made agreements with several UAE educational institutions aimed at establishing educational programs serving RTA business such as Roads Diploma, encouraging employees to pursue their academic education, and granting employees educational vacations and overseas missions.

“From inception RTA made several achievements and successes such as launching the Strategic Transport Plan 2020, constructing & operating the Dubai Metro Red Line on 09/09/09, designing & constructing roads, bridges and crossings network, upgrading land & marine mass transit systems, and setting up a corporate risk assessment and analysis system.

“In the foreseeable future, RTA will set sight on three key drivers; the first one is to offer better services to customers and strategic partners. RTA customers satisfaction rating has soared substantially over the last few years jumping from 59 per cent in 2006 to 85 per cent in 2010. The second one is to raise employees’ satisfaction rating and the third one is to promote saving and enhancement of efficiency. Saving must be a culture and work methodology of the RTA in future, and offering quality service must be an objective of each and every employee,” said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer praised the Departments winning the first five positions in accordance with the results of the internal assessment of the performance of Departments based on the standards of the Dubai Government Excellence Program 2010 where Traffic Department, Traffic & Roads Agency ranked first after achieving massive performance improvement leapfrogging from the 33rd position in 2008 to the 8th position in 2009 and once again to the first one in 2010. The Human Resources Department & Development came second, followed by Internal Audit Dep’t in the third position, Contracts & Procurement Dep’t in the fourth position and Strategic Planning Dep’t in the fifth position. Al Tayer also decorated the Most Advanced Departments where Human Resources & Development Dep’t topped the list, next came Automatic Fare Collection Dep’t as second, Parking Dep’t as third, Roads Dep’t as fourth, Drivers Licensing Dep’t as fifth, Safety and Risk Planning & Regulation Dep’t as sixth and Rail Projects Construction Dep’t was the 7th.

Al Tayer called on male and female employees at various RTA sectors and agencies to lend all possible support to the excellence teams and committees, urging them to continue the excellence drive and redouble their efforts in order to realize the aspirations sought by the RTA.

For her part engineer Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency, said: “Winning the first position is a natural result of the efforts made by the Department last year and the success ingredients enjoyed by the Departments of Traffic & Roads Agency; which have made substantial progress in the performance criteria during the past months.

“This achievement is a source of pride and at the same time prompts us to put in more efforts as it came early on during the current year; which motivates other Departments of the Agency to take early action this year towards achieving higher positions. This status also poses a continuous challenge to the Traffic Department in order to maintain its premier position,” said Maitha in a final remark.
 


RTA Bags 2nd Middle East Customer Service Excellence Award

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has scooped the Middle East Customer Service Excellence Award in the Government Departments category 2010, for the second straight time. The Award, which was accorded by the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute, an entity affiliated to Datamatix Group, was received on behalf of the RTA by Yousef Jawad, CEO of Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, during a ceremony held in Al Falak Hall, Burj Al Arab, Dubai in the presence of top executives of public and private entities at the regional and international levels, as well as the diplomatic corp in the region.

Jawad commended RTA’s winning of this prestigious Award considering it another achievement added to RTA record accorded by a world-class entity demonstrating the high profile of the RTA as an advanced transport service provider that adopts methodologies, programs and concepts contributing to the evolution of modern management strategies that commensurate to the aspirations of citizens and residents as well as the business and private sector.

AGMC Celebrates 35 Years Of Excellence And Announces Completion Date Of Multimillion Dirham Investment In Business

AGMC, the importer for BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, has reaffirmed its commitment to the UAE with a multimillion dirham expansion to its flagship showroom on Dubai’s
Sheikh Zayed Road, extensive training for staff and all new diagnostic equipment.

Representing an additional investment of over 50 million dirhams, the new facilities are a culmination of an impressive first 35 years in business and will mark an exciting new era for the BMW Group brands in the emirates.
Latest results from the importer reveal sustained growth in the first two months of 2011 following a 19% sales growth last year. Compared to January to February period in 2010, AGMC sales increased 34% for BMW, 170% for MINI and 113% for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

Located off Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road, the original showroom was inaugurated in 1996 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Al Zahid Reviews His Excellence Experience At Best Practices Conference 2010

Dr. Khalid Al Zahid, Director of Marine Transport, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has delivered a presentation entitled “My Journey with Excellence” during his recent participation in the Best Practices Conference 2010 organized by the Department of Economic Development in collaboration with the Dubai Quality Group. His participation came in his capacity as winner of the Distinguished Government Employee Award 2009.

During the Conference, Al Zahid reviewed his experience with excellence and how he was impressed by the book of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, entitled “My Vision”, which he considered as a basic source of inspiration with respect to a number of ideas in the academic and professional arenas.

With regard to the academic aspect, the Director of Marine Transport spoke about the factors underlying his selection of Beach Engineering as a useful field of activity for the nation. He referred to the numerous difficulties encountered in this field due to the scarce local experiences and reference material. However, with strong determination and patience he has managed to achieve his aspirations by obtaining his PhD while continuing to discharge his normal official duty.

Regarding the practical aspect of his life, Al Zahid explained that, during his career, he filled various government posts, including project engineer, head of branch, head of section and director in a course of six years, during which he managed to obtain his Master degree. By so doing, Al Zahid is delivering a message to all individuals urging them to have the necessary will and determination to pursue their academic education during the course of their practical life through striking a balance between the two.

Al Zahid shed light on the milestones of his career culminated in obtaining the Distinguished Government Employee Award 2009; which was preceded by obtaining the Distinguished Government Technical Employee Award in 2004 as well. In addition, he has made a quantum leap in marine transport making it an inseparable part of the public transport set up providing smooth, safe and attractive services demonstrated in the launch of the waterbus, or the planning and introduction of water taxi and ferry, all of which make the first regional debut.

The Director of Marine Transport spoke about his own experience in leadership and how he benefited from the pioneers of this field, at the forefront of whom is His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director in matching the long-term strategic drive with the transient operational obligations, empowering & enriching human resources and working teams and managing the change within agencies and authorities.

He also reviewed his experience in the field of innovation showing how he introduced modern beach surveying systems and technologies in Dubai Emirate saving time, effort and money through the use of conventional methods. Commenting on his knowledge, he pointed out that his knowledge was enriched by visits to a number of developed countries where he familiarized himself with their best practices in marine transport, and the presentation of working papers in many conferences and international and regional forums as well as the effective participation in specialized professional panels.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Khalid Al Zahid had made effective participations in several official and unofficial events. In the official front, he was in charge of organizing several conferences and managing major events such as the Dubai Metro inauguration ceremony. Unofficially, he had a long standing experience with Dubai Television and many international and local events involving sports, community service and voluntary activities.


HBMeU Seeks To Stimulate Scientific Interaction And Strengthen Quest For Excellence In Learning Through Annual Congress 2011

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and University President, Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University (HBMeU), a leader in the field of e-Learning and quality management in the Arab World, has announced that it will hold the Annual Congress 2011 from January 31 to February 3, 2011.

The Annual Congress 2011 will provide an international platform for three important conferences: the 5th Quality Conference in the Middle East – TQM and Excellence: A Framework for Managing Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility; the 4th Conference on e-Learning Excellence in the Middle East – In Search of New Paradigms for Re-engineering Education; and the 3rd e-Health Conference in the Middle East – Excellence in Healthcare: From Global Perspectives to Local Opportunities.

Organised under the theme "Being at the Leading Edge – How to Give Quest for Excellence a New Meaning", the Annual Congress 2011 will feature an international gathering of thinkers, researchers, experts, gurus and practitioners who will present novel ideas, demonstrate how original research is supported by evidence-based arguments, share new concepts and illustrate best practice applications in various sectors of the economy. HBMeU has revealed that it has invited scholars, researchers and intellectuals in the Middle East and from other parts of the world to submit various research works concerning quality, e-Learning and e-Health.
