Dunia Finance LLC, the Abu Dhabi based financial services company, distributed donations earlier this week to labourers in Dubai to help improve their everyday living conditions and add a few smiles to their lives during the holy month of Ramadan. The donated items, which included clothing, home appliances, furniture, electronics, bedding and toiletries, were collected through Dunia’s Dunia Cares ‘Donating from the heart gives others a brighter start’ campaign which aims at collecting extra or unwanted items and distributing them to underprivileged individuals.

The ‘Donating from the heart gives others a brighter start’ campaign, which falls under the ‘Dunia Cares’ programme umbrella, encouraged Dunia staff, customers and the community as a whole to donate their unused items to help the needy. During the campaign period, all 19 Dunia financial centers located across the UAE accepted donations whilst a home collection service was offered for larger items of donation.

“For the city’s labourers, daily life is a drain on their modest salaries, most of which they send back home to their families. Our aim, with the ‘Donating from the heart gives others a brighter start’ campaign, was to provide the UAE’s labour camps with the things that they need for everyday life but cannot afford. Even the smallest items such as a toothbrush or comb can make a difference to those who have little to spend. This campaign is an example of how corporations and communities can come together to make a difference.” Said Rajeev Kakar, Executive Director & CEO, Dunia.

The overwhelmingly positive response to the campaign from both individuals and corporates has encouraged Dunia to consider extending it past the holy month. Through the campaign Dunia was able to collect over 2,-000 items and distributed those to labourers across the UAE.

The ‘Dunia Cares’ programme covers the company’s social and charitable activities, which focus on lending a helping hand to causes that span public health, education, improving social conditions, and working at the grassroots level. Dunia has rolled out several community-based CSR initiatives to support causes such as supplying basic necessities to construction workers, blood donation drives, and English Literacy classes for those who are less privileged and in need to learn English.
