Creativity is a byproduct of inspiration and The Dubai Fountain at The Dubai Mall is oozing with both. Although not yet officially launched, the musical water fountain has managed to splash over some inspiration to Vladimir Panesh, former UAE ice-skating champion, who is performing everyday at The Dubai Mall’s Ice Rink, until May 29.

“The Dubai Fountain is just amazing,” says Panesh just after his solo act at the Dubai Ice Rink. “My show for the Festival@The Dubai Mall is choreographed to Andrea Bocelli’s song ‘Time To Say Goodbye’. Watching The Dubai Fountain dance so beautifully to that tune was so moving that it compelled me to do the same.”

Spanning a length of over 275m, The Dubai Fountain is a water-music spectacle with powerful water nozzles shooting water sprays up to heights of 500ft.

In celebration of the Festival@The Dubai Mall that runs until May 29, the Dubai Ice Rink is hosting international professional skaters, who perform three shows daily.

Professional Russian ice-skater Vladimir Panesh has been skating since the age of four and played the key role of Captain Lee in the drama on ice “Mulan” that was held in Dubai a few years ago. Popular Ukrainian ice-skater Elvira Kazakova also performs solo acts every day along with Panesh.

Dubai Ice Rink is increasingly becoming a social hotspot for residents and visitors to Dubai. With 1.5 inches (38 mm) of ice – nearly three times the thickness of an NHL ice rink – the Olympic-sized attraction employs the latest technology to maintain the ‘frozen ice’ consistency in an indoor venue.

Two-hour public skating sessions are on offer throughout the day every day, in addition to group visit packages and specialised ‘Learn to Skate’ programmes. Soon to be launched are Birthday Party Packages and Disco on Ice sessions at Dubai Ice Rink and the venue is also available for exclusive hire for private functions and corporate events.
