Emirates Post is participating in the 13th Water Energy Technology & Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2011) which is being from 8 to 10 March at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The Emirates Post stand features a number of stamps related to environment. As the exhibition attracts hundreds of exhibitors and visitors from around the globe, Emirates Post seeks to use these stamps as ambassadors of the UAE.
Abdulla Alashram, CEO of Emirates Post, hailed the role of the exhibition in raising awareness about the conservation of electricity, water and environment by using prudently the natural resources. “Emirates Post is introducing a series of measures in this regard, particularly by reducing dependence on paper and focusing on electronic transactions, as well as engaging in a recycling project in association with national bodies and environment authorities,” Alashram said.
Alashram commented: “We at Emirates Post look at WETEX as a platform that highlights latest developments in the field of environment in relation to our business and services. The exhibition is an opportunity for decision-makers from ministries and government agencies, to view these innovations and meet companies, manufacturers and dealers from around the world.”
CDA Participates In The First Implementation Phase Of Dubai Government Services Delivery Model Initiative

The Community Development Authority (CDA) has announced its participation in the first implementation phase of Dubai Government Services Delivery Model Initiative, one of the most advanced systems to improve service led by efficiency enhancement and a stronger customer focus.
The selection criteria for the government institutions in the first implementation phase of the initiative was based on the five strategic sectors of Dubai Government, the diversity of their nature of work and the structure of these institutions.
"The Dubai Government Services Delivery Model Initiative paves the way for further cooperation and coordination between government bodies, which will bring about an exceptional level of efficiency and quality across all services, which is in line with Dubai Strategic Plan 2015," said Khaled Al Kamda, Director General of CDA.
"The main objective of CDA and its partners is to providing customers with high quality services and unique experience that save their time and efforts. This will require more investments in human capital and training to find qualified people who can play a vital role in providing a great customer service experience," added Al Kamda.
The Dubai Government Services Delivery Model Initiative aims to enhance customer services in Dubai by following global best practices and methods to improve the performance of government organizations, and to provide accurate information on the progress of services.
The model has been developed based on several key factors including involving customers from different backgrounds, cooperation and coordination between government bodies, prudent spending and others.
CDA participates in the first implementation phase of the initiative as representative of the social sector in the Emirate and provides wide range of services to a large segment of citizens.
RTA Participates In Emirates Airline Literature Festival

As an official sponsor of Mass Transport, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has participated in the third edition of the Emirates Airline Literature Festival, held from 8 to 12 March at Culture and Arts Symposium, attended by His Highness Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. RTA’s Participation was underscored by its deployment of more of 30 buses to transport the participating authors and writers throughout the festival days.
Peyman Younes, Director of RTA’s Marketing and Corporate Communications said, "We are keen on participating in the festival in a bid to revive the "Read More" Initiative for the current year, to make a distinctive start for this event, especially it has a wide-ranging cultural impact, not only locally but also worldwide."
"Read More Initiative is one of the community-based initiatives that we are keen to continuously leverage since its inception last year at Al Mawakeb Private School in Dubai and through our field visits to about 7 public and private schools, in addition to other communal participations made to encourage and motivate students to read, as reading is the key to success and excellence. Therefore, we are keen on dressing this year’s initiative in a new look and make a bright start, enabling about 1000 male and female students hailing from different schools, to interact with our vision and our intended objective to promote the initiative,” he added.
Younis pointed out that the work group of "Read More" Initiative from the very first day of the festival has been keen on distributing about 350 gifts and diverse story books to all students representing 11 schools in Dubai, who had actively participated in performing a spot in a play during the opening ceremony entitled "The Riddle."
Peyman Younes said that the second day events, which came under the theme of "A School Day", had a significant impact in instilling the "Read More" Initiative among the festival visitors, students and the huge crowds who visited RTA’s Stand to participate in the competition which had been organized for the first time, under the theme, "Why I Love Reading", being an integral part of "Read More Initiative."
Commenting on this competition, the Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications said, "The competition is based on holding interviews with a large group of students from all academic levels, to probe their the trends, interest in reading books, favorite stories and the number of hours they spend in reading. The majority of students have a strong desire for reading and they are well-aware of its importance as a source of information. Such interest and desire stems from the family motivation and support. The best stories that attract them are those related to fantasy and suspense."
"Read More Initiative Work Team will analyze students’ answers such that the best three expressive answers will be selected and RTA will present valuable gifts as a motivation to the winners with the aim of making books and reading a solid foundation for a bright cognitive future.
“The Work Team has a keen interest in involving the children of RTA employees in the activities of Emirates Airline Literature Festival by distributing a large number of tickets which were provided by the festival organizers in order to benefit from workshops held by authors and distinguished writers to broaden their intellectual capacities and mental faculties.
Dubai Customs Participates In Careers UAE 2011

Inline with its strategy towards attracting the qualified UAE nationals at the different business domains and fulfilling the Emiratization government programs, Dubai Customs takes part in Careers UAE 2011 which will be held today at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.
H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Executive Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and Dubai Customs Director General said that this event comes at the top of our calendar for our different participations during the year “This is the best platform to meet the UAE citizens who look forward to kicking off and developing their career life by giving them the chance to meet the Department’s HR officials and employers and discuss the open vacancies we have in addition to holding open discussions with them to enable them to look into the options of professional development” he said.

Ahmed Butti Ahmed stated that the Emiratization percentage reached 82% by the end of 2010 with 100 per cent rate among leadership positions as well as the customs inspection cadre who are considered the most vital occupational category at the Department for the significant role they play in protecting the UAE from the smuggling attempts of the illegal and prohibited goods locally and internationally.

CDA Participates In Dubai Walk

The Community Development Authority (CDA) participated in the "Dubai Walk," an initiative undertaken by the Dubai Sports Council to encourage people to engage in sports and physical exercises on a daily basis.
CDA participated in the initiative through the Volunteers Affairs Section, established to enhance awareness on the importance of voluntary work in building cohesive and harmonious societies.
"The Volunteers Section at CDA strives to be part of events where Dubai residents from different cultures, backgrounds and nationalities come together, on account of their impact in developing links between communities" said Mr. Mohammad Bakkar, CEO Social Support Sector at CDA.
CDA established the Volunteers Section to highlight the importance of voluntary work by overseeing such work in its various forms, in addition to providing voluntary work opportunities to individuals and preparing them to develop and grow in this field.
CDA regularly communicates with all government bodies and private sector corporations to increase awareness of voluntary work. The participation of over 100 volunteers in "Dubai Walks" underscored the success of such efforts and the rising awareness on volunteering.
Dubai Convention Bureau Participates In SITE International Conference In Cape Town

Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB), a division of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), recently participated in the 35th conference of the Society of Incentive Travel Executives (SITE) in Cape Town, South Africa. The Bureau was represented by Abdul Rahim N. Baker, Executive Marketing, and Walid A. Marhoon, Senior Sales Executive.
A number of seminars and workshops were held on the sidelines of the conference. One of the keynote speakers this year was F. W. de Klerk, the former President of South Africa, who explained how change is important in order to thrive.
Among the main topics discussed during the seminars were “Using Media to Improve Your Brand,” “Creating, Developing and Managing the Professional Status,” and “Best Practices for Sustainable Tourism.”
The next annual SITE conference will be held in Las Vegas, USA, from 13th – 15th October 2011.
The Dubai Convention Bureau is a member of SITE, an association with a membership of 2,100 professionals and specialists in the meetings and conferences sector from 87 countries.
UAE Participates In The Ministerial Meeting Of The Economic And Social Council

His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy headed the UAE delegation to the ministerial meeting of the Economic and Social Council which will be held on December 21 to 22, 2010 in Cairo, as a preparation for the 2nd Summit of the Arab Economic and Social Development.
The meeting will discuss the report of the Secretary-General, which includes the implementation of the findings and decisions of the Summit of the Arab Economic and Social Development, held in January 2009 and to follow up the implementation of the Arab summits in regular session during the period from 2001 to 2010.
Mr Al Mansoori has emphasized the importance of the meetings of the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League as one of the most important institutions practising joint Arab work and supervising various Arab institutions in the economic and social development fields.
“The joint Arab work and to support economic and social development of Arab countries which is the main objective of the council, come in line with the policy of the UAE. This Council is the supreme authority for the development of economic and social policy of the Arab world,” Al Mansoori added.
The discussions will also handle the marine link project and the online networking project for Arab countries and the cooperation in activating the World Bank’s initiative in the Arab world and the Millennium Development Goals, which include the recommendations of the report, the third Arab Millennium Development Goals 2010 and the impact of the economic crisis, global investigation and the report of the Third Arab Millennium – economic aspects.
RTA Participates In The MEFSC 2010

RTA’s Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning Department (SRRPD) has recently participated in the Middle East Fire and Safety Conference (MEFSC) 2010.
Eur. Ing. Amair Saleem, Director of Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning Department (SRRPD) of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, who has represented the RTA at this event, stated that the Authority is always keen on taking part in such conferences so as to keep pace with the latest in this domain and enhance its work performance in a way that goes with the international best practices in the safety, risk and crisis management.
"The RTA attaches a great significance to the safety in the services it delivers to different social cross-sections through its public transport modes including the metro, public buses, marines transport modes and taxicabs," said Saleem.
"The Conference was attended by a number of leading government, semi-government and private organizations from the UAE and the region where scores of presentations on different safety topics were delivered and the attendees exchanged ideas through a platform of proactive discussions," he added.
He also explained that the event focused on the codes and practices, along with the latest technologies available with case studies from the past, and dealt with a number of topics including the Codes and Practices, Design, Technological Advancement and Emergency Response Planning. "Fire safety, he said, is considered one of the key features and most important factors when discussing safety in a work environment and a considerable number of all workplace accidents could be prevented if organizations put in place proper safety control measures. The driving force for a strong corporate safety culture must come from the top and flow throughout the organization.”
Saleem reaffirmed RTA’s commitment to constantly participate in the conferences and exhibitions that deal with varied fields and can be beneficial to develop its safety, risk and crisis management practices.
Dubai Municipality Participates In Asphalt Technology Conference

A technical team from the Dubai Central Laboratory Department of Dubai Municipality participated in the first conference of the Middle East Society of Asphalt Technology, which was held in Beirut .
The technical team, which included Eng. Ali Ahmed Elian, Head of Engineering Materials Laboratory Section and Eng. Adnan Mahmoud Marzouqi, Head of Building Materials Unit presented a working paper in the conference entitled "Dubai Municipality experience in evaluation and development of Asphalt Specifications" that included the results of studies and research carried out by the Dubai Central Laboratory on the asphalt binders.
In this study, the researchers used the latest equipment and technical tools available, which helped to reach the most accurate results, which received tremendous response and appreciation by all participants in the conference.
The participants reviewed the best specifications that must be provided in the asphalt to produce the mixtures appropriate for the local environment and take into account the high temperatures and increased axle loads.
The study also included results to improve the properties of Bitumen by adding certain types of polymer, which would increase the endurance of the mixture for the shear forces caused by heavy vehicles, especially at intersections and traffic lights.
Dubai Electricity And Water Authority Participates In ’Yesterday’s Heritage For Tomorrow’s Generation’

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) today announced its participation in the summer activities organized by the Architectural Heritage department of Dubai Municipality by hosting special activities for children on the importance of protecting the environment through energy conservation.
Held at the ‘Dar Al Nadwa’ in the Bastakiya District, the activities are open to students and the children of DEWA employees for three days a week from 5 – 30 July, 2009.
‘Splashy’ and ‘Sparky’, DEWA’s mascots representing water and electricity, are adding to the edutainment part of the event with their exciting presence. Distributing gifts such as books, clothing apparel and toys, both characters are contributing to raising awareness among children on the need to save energy.
DEWA’s participation comes as part of its emirate-wide endeavour to offer advice on the methods of conserving energy and encouraging consumers to reduce their consumption rates during the peak summer hours.
Amal Koshak, Senior Manager – Demand and Tariff Management, DEWA, said: “There is no doubt that protecting the environment by not depleting our natural resources is an urgent national priority. We urge every segment of society to support us in this noble cause and help us disseminate the message to the largest number of stakeholders.
“Our participation in ‘Yesterday’s Heritage for Tomorrow’s Generation’ stems from our deep conviction in the value of educating the community on various energy conservation methods. Instilling the habit of saving power to reduce environmental damage among children will significantly help shape a healthy environment for the next generation.”
DEWA recently participated for the sixth consecutive year at the annual Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) extravaganza through leveraging its presence at Modhesh World to educate the general public on the importance of energy conservation. In addition, it is aggressively hosting a spectrum of other activities to educate the residents of Dubai on the importance of conserving natural resources, including distributing devices that help reduce water and electricity consumption at home.
