Roads & Transport Authority – Manal Khalid:
The third Number e-Auction, held by the Licensing Agency of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) via RTA website proved highly popular among various nationalities and age groups spanning a wide spectrum of the community. 500 number plates of Number Plate Category (K) were on offer in an initial debut of this category, besides other number plates of Categories (G) and (J) and the overall proceeds of the Auction, which lasted one week, totaled AED2,323,400.
Commenting on the proceedings of the Auction, the Director Vehicle Licensing Dep’t, RTA Licensing Agency Mohammed Abdul Kareem Nimaat said: “The 3rd auction has been up to our expectations in delivering e-services to customers in the interest of the entire community. The e-service of selling vehicle number plates has started to fit in with the requirements of customers who are aspiring for a competition in a level and well-balanced format offering equitable and multiple opportunities; which is reflected in an upsurge in the number of participants in the e-auctions and a declie in the number of observations and complaints in this regard.
“This is attributed to the efforts of the staff of the Number Plates Section who were keen on maintaining the supply and demand levels in a way that meets and suits the needs of the market as well as customers. We have also focused on offering numbers in abundant supply and minimizing offering numbers in limited supply such that they will be made available in future auctions.
“Number plate category (K) topped other categories in demand with the number plate (K 12333) selling for 20,500AED though the nominal value of the number started from AED1,000; which reflects the response generated by the auction and the high bidding seen by the Auction. Likewise, number plate (K 69699) was sold for AED18,500, Plate (K 67767) brought back AED16,500, Plate (K 78666) fetched AED13,000, Plate (G 4409) was traded for AED12,600 and Plate (K 25025) was exchanged for AED9,800.
“The success of the third Number Plate e-Auction has demonstrated the importance of holding these e-auctions and the need to hold them on frequent times in order to serve the desires of community segments interested in e-auctions vis-à-vis open auctions, and therefore the next e-auction is planned on 25 February 2011.
