If crowd pull is anything to go by, Dubai Shopping Malls Group’s ‘Shop & Win BMW Cars’ campaign for DSS is a definite hit. Hundreds of excited shoppers gathered at Oasis Centre, the latest venue to host DSMG’s fifth raffle draw. This week’s winning raffle coupons were picked by Ihab Zagloul, Vice President, MasterCard International, Middle East & Levant. The two lucky winners – fourteen year old Kuwaiti national Aisha Salim Al Mubarak and British resident Lucy Casey-will receive a BMW 3 Series sedan each.

Aisha’s family broke into cheers when informed of her winning. The fourteen year old Kuwaiti student is currently on holiday with her family in Dubai.

According to Aisha’s mother, she is the lucky one in the family. “This is not the first time that Aisha has won a raffle draw in Dubai. Last year she won a diamond while shopping here. But this is even more exciting, a brand new BMW! We are all so happy for her,“ Aisha’s mother added.

The campaign is now in its last two weeks of run and so far ten shoppers have won BMW 3 Series sedans. All that customers need to do to take part in the weekly raffle draws is to shop at any of the participating 21 malls for a minimum amount of AED 200. A business development manager at an architecture firm in Dubai, Lucy won the lucky raffle coupon when she booked a ticket to Saudi Arabia for a business trip.

Oasis Centre General Manager,Sanjay Kapoor, commented: " Oasis Centre has seen a definite increase in footfall and sales this DSS compared to last year. While the BMW raffle has made a difference, one of the major reasons the mall has done well this summer is because of the variety of sales, offers and discounts that different stores in the mall are offering. Additionally, we have tied up with Emirates NBD to offer a mall wide promotion of 0% interest on credit card purchases to be paid back over 6 months. All these value-additions have helped us to sustain good sales figures this DSS"

The member malls of DSMG participating in DSS 2010 include: Al Bustan Centre, Al Ghurair City, Al Manal Centre, Al Mulla Plaza, Arabian Center, Burjuman, Century Mall, Dubai Marina Mall, Dubai Marina Walk, Dubai Outlet Mall, Gold & Diamond Park, Hamarain Centre, Lamcy Plaza, Mazaya Centre, Mercato Mall, Oasis Center, Palm Strip, Reef Mall, Souk Al Bahar, The Dubai Mall and Town Centre.

“As we approach the launch of the 13th edition of Dubai Summer Surprises, we are now realizing our efforts over the previous years in building this successful industry, thus placing Dubai as the pioneer of such innovative initiatives in the region.”

HE hailed the sponsors of DSS 2010, stating that supporting an event of this magnitude by leading local and international entities is a clear indication of the stable and robust economy of Dubai, and a clear vote of confidence from the private sector towards Dubai Government initiatives.

Laila Suhail, Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment said, “Dubai will be an oasis of summer fun and excitement for 52 consecutive days during DSS 2010, the leading and the most recognized summer event in the region. Also, as part of our new mandate for DEPE, we are working very closely with the retail sector to sustain its growth and enhance its role as a key driver for Dubai’s economy, whilst positioning Dubai as the leading retail hub in the region.”

Suhail also expressed DEPE’s appreciation towards the sponsors of DSS 2010, stressing on the fact that the event wouldn’t have reached its present posture as one of the must successful events in the region if it weren’t for the private sector’s support. “The feedback from our esteemed sponsors is quite essential for us to continue our growth and development. In fact, DSS sponsors have extended their support beyond their sponsorship to other aspects such as the marketing and logistical operations of the event itself. It’s a perfect partnership where every one wins,” she concluded.
